Note Value Recognition for Rhythm Transcription Using a Markov Random Field Model for Musical Scores and Performances of Piano Music
IEEE/ACM Transactions on Audio, Speech and Language Processing, 25(7), pp. 1542-1554, 2017. [arXiv:1703.08144]
A rhythm transcription algorithm converts a MIDI performance to a music score representation. Our main contribution is the development of a method that can recognise the score-written quantised note lengths from an input MIDI performance and a result of onset quantisation. This serves as a postprocessing to existing onset rhythm transcription methods, which together can produce complete score information with onset and offset score times.
Source code
You can download source code here. An onset rhythm transcription method based on metrical HMM and an evaluation tool are included.Demonstration
Example 1 (Mozart: Piano Sonata D Major KV576)
・Input performance ( mp3 MIDI )
・Result by HMM + MRF ( mp3 MIDI )
・Ground truth score ( mp3 MIDI )
Example 2 (Beethoven: Piano Sonata No 21)
・Input performance ( mp3 MIDI )
・Result by HMM + MRF ( mp3 MIDI )
・Ground truth score ( mp3 MIDI )
Test data set
The used data consist of the following 60 phrases of classical piano music each performed by 3 different players (total of 180 performances). Most of the performances are taken from International Piano e-Competition site and segmented data could be provided upon requests (contact details are at the bottom of this page). Another list of used data for training the score model can be seen here.- Bach: WTC Book 1 C# Major Prelude Bar 1-32
